Day by Day Safari Itinerary

Extended Kilimanjaro Trek Adventure and Iconic Safari Escape.

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After breakfast, transfer by road from Arusha to Kilimanjaro National Park’s Marangu Gate. Meet your guides and porters, complete park registrations, and begin the trek. The trail leads you through a lush rainforest, where towering trees provide a canopy alive with bird calls and monkeys swinging between branches. The air is humid, with moss and ferns creating a mystical forest atmosphere. After 4–5 hours of trekking, you will reach Mandara Hut (2,700m), your first overnight stop. A short walk to Maundi Crater offers breathtaking views of the surrounding plains before returning for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Today’s trail takes you out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone, where the scenery changes to rolling heather and open spaces. The vegetation is striking, with giant lobelias and unique alpine flowers dotting the landscape. As you ascend, views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks dominate the horizon. The hike takes 6–7 hours, with arrival at Horombo Hut in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the hut.

Day 3: Acclimatization Dat at Horombo Hut

Spend the day acclimatizing with a hike towards Zebra Rocks, a volcanic rock formation with black and white striped patterns. The hike helps your body adapt to the altitude while offering spectacular views over the plains below. Return to Horombo Hut for meals and a second overnight stay, allowing your body extra rest before climbing higher.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

The trail ascends through an alpine desert with little vegetation but dramatic, wide-open landscapes. The path is dry, with small volcanic rocks scattered across the terrain, creating a stark contrast to the greenery you passed earlier. The air is thinner here, and you’ll feel the effects of higher altitude. After 6–7 hours, you arrive at Kibo Hut situated at the base of the summit cone. Dinner and overnight here, with views of the looming peak above.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Horombo Hut

Today you’ll hike further up towards the summit zone without attempting the peak, experiencing high-altitude trekking and breathtaking panoramas across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. After reaching a suitable acclimatization point, return to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight. This extra day adds depth to your Kilimanjaro experience and maximizes acclimatization.

Day 6: Descent to Mandara Hut

Day 8: Lake Manyara National Park

Look for the park’s famous tree climbing lions, hippos in the lake, and vast flocks of flamingos. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 10: Serengeti National Park

In the late afternoon, transfer by road back to Arusha, where your journey concludes.
